Region 10 Settles with City of Worley (Worley, ID) for Clean Water Act and NPDES Permit Violations
On August 22, 2018, Region 10 filed a consent agreement and final order resolving violations of the Clean Water Act by the City of Worley, located in Worley, Idaho. Respondent, which operates a wastewater treatment plant, exceeded its NPDES permit limits for E. coli, total suspended solids (TSS), biochemical oxygen demand (BOD), and ammonia. The City agreed to pay a penalty of $4,100.00 and to enter into a compliance order where they agreed to reassess effluent sampling protocols; procure new sampling equipment; improve influent piping; provide refresher training to its wastewater employees; and update its Emergency Response and Notification Plan. The Environmental Benefits of this enforcement action will be a reduction in the quantity of pollutants reaching the Spokane River, a water of the United States, which includes 31 pounds per year of suspended solids.
