On June 11, 2018, EPA Region III filed a Consent Agreement and Final Order, simultaneously commencing and concluding an administrative action proceeding against Koppers, Inc. (Koppers), of Montgomery, PA, for three alleged violations of the authorized Pennsylvania Hazardous Waste Management Regulations. Koppers, a large quantity generator of hazardous waste, is a wood treater. The settlement will ensure that the company will properly manage hazardous waste at the facility, as well as properly maintain the facility. RCRA is designed to protect human health and the environment by providing for the safe management of such hazardous wastes. EPA informed PaDEP of the action by letter on July 28, 2017, and received no objection. Per the terms of the Consent Agreement, Respondent will pay a civil penalty in the amount of $12,116.00.
