Summary

On May 7, 2018, EPA signed an Administrative Order relating to the White Swan Cleaners/Sun Cleaners Area Ground Water Contamination Superfund Site located in Wall Township, Monmouth County, New Jersey. The Respondent is the sole financially viable and liable party for the site. The order requires the Respondent to complete the remedial design of and implement a portion of the remedy relating to vapor intrusion contamination described in the Record of Decision issued on September 30, 2013 and the Explanation of Significant Differences issued on September 25, 2017. The work required under this order includes the evaluation of indoor air contamination by sampling of sub-slab and indoor air in approximately 770 structures including homes, commercial buildings, schools, day care centers, and churches overlying and near the site?s groundwater contaminant plume and, where necessary, the installation and maintenance of vapor mitigation systems. In addition, the Respondent will be required to maintain systems previously installed at the site. As a result of a conference and comments received by the Respondent, the Order was modified. The Modification incorporates changes to address such comments which EPA deemed acceptable and appropriate for this matter.
