Region 10 Settles with Pacific Star Seafoods, Inc. (Kenai, AK) for SPCC Violations at Three Kenai River Facilities
In August 2018, Region 10 filed three Expedited Settlement Agreements (ESAs) to resolve Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) violations at three Pacific Star Seafoods, Inc. fish weighing, boat fueling and fish processing facilities located on the Kenai River in Kenai Alaska following July 2017 inspections. The SPCC deficiencies included inadequate secondary containment and a lack of routine and tank integrity inspections and spill prevention training. The Kenai River is one of the main salmon spawning and rearing rivers in central Alaska, and a central location for the lower Cook Inlet salmon fishing industry. As part of the post-inspection process, the company made structural secondary containment improvements to the three facilities? fuel and oil storage areas and adopted new and updated SPCC plans. The Respondent also agreed to pay ESA-based penalties totaling $8925. Contact: Rick Cool, (206) 553-6223
