Region 10 Settles with Alaska Aerofuel, Inc. (Fairbanks, AK) for CWA Violations
On September 28, 2018, Region 10 filed an administrative order on consent (AOC) resolving violations of the Clean Water Act by Alaska Aerofuel, Inc., located in Fairbanks, Alaska. Respondent, which operates an airport-related fixed base operator facility, discharged pollutants to waters of the U.S. in violation of the Alaska MSGP. Region 10 inspected the facility in September 2016, as part of an ongoing workshare agreement with Alaska Department of Environmental Conservation to assist them in implementing the NPDES program due to on-going staffing shortfalls within the ADEC compliance & enforcement program. The AOC requires the Respondent to revise and update their SWPPP, and to provide EPA periodic submissions demonstrating adequate SWPPP implementation. Respondent?s compliance with the MSGP will help protect Alaska?s natural resources including anadromous fish habitat located downstream of the facility and airport discharge locations. This AOC was also part of the negotiations that earlier this month resulted in a completed consent agreement and final order. Contacts: Alex Fidis, (206) 553-4710; Rick Cool, (206) 553-6223.
