On September 19, 2018, Region Ill filed a consent agreement and final order that settled a RRP Rule with MAPRO Builders, LLC involving five homes in Washington, DC. MAPRO failed to obtain initial certification from EPA to perform renovations on pre-1978 properties for compensation, failed to obtain from the owners of the property a written acknowledgment that the owners had received the EPA Renovate Right pamphlet, failed to make available to EPA all records necessary to demonstrate that the renovator performed all of the lead-safe work practices and the post-renovation cleaning, and, at one site, failed to contain waste from renovation activities to prevent releases of dust and debris before the waste is removed from the work area. The Region learned of possible violations by the company because of a tip from a neighbor next to one of the five sites. On March 8, 2018, the Region notified the Washington Department of Energy & Environment of our impending action and, in response, the Department thanked us for the notice and offered its assistance.
