On September 28th, 2018, the Region filed a Consent Agreement and Final Order commencing and concluding a proceeding against Sterling Lumber Co., LLC, for storing and operating six PCB transformers at its Phoenix, Illinois, facility in violation of the disposal, marking and inspection requirements of TSCA's PCB rule. This enforcement action resulted from an inspection by the Illinois Environmental Protection Agency. Sterling's Phoenix facility manufactures wooden pallets and other wood products.
