EPA entered into a CAFO with Red Knight Transportation L.L.C. (or RKT, previously Rural King Transportation L.L.C.) to resolve its violations of Section 203(a)(3)(A) of the Clean Air Act (CAA). RKT removed or rendered inoperative devices or elements of design that were installed on or in at least 57 heavy duty truck engines installed in compliance with the CAA.
The CAFO requires RKT to either reinstall the emission controls on the tampered vehicles or destroy the tampered engines, complete a $140,000 supplemental environmental wood stove project (SEP) in their Rural King stores throughout the midwest and southeastern U.S., and pay a penalty of $140,000.
