Region 10 Resolves Clean Air Act 112(r) Violations at Bellingham Cold Storage Company, (Bellingham, WA)
On February 13, 2019, Region 10 filed an expedited settlement agreement which both initiated and concluded an administrative action against Bellingham Cold Storage Company for violations of CAA 112(r) risk management program requirements. Respondent failed to comply with several risk management program requirements that apply to its use of anhydrous ammonia at two of their facilities. A plan provides important information to emergency responders and planners. This includes an assessment of associated hazards to the surrounding community, accurate design calculations for process safety such as pressure relief valves, and demonstrating equipment complies with recognized and generally accepted good engineering practices. The company agreed to pay a penalty of $14,500.
