On August 28, 2018, the New Mexico Environment Department inspected the City of Ruidoso Downs and the Village of Ruidoso's Wastewater Treatment facility for compliance, with the Multi-Sector General Permit on behalf of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). The inspection found the facility not authorized to discharge storm water associated with its industrial activities under the permit. EPA issued Administrative Order CWA-06-2019-1703 requiring the City to take corrective actions to come into compliance.
