On Thursday, May 9, 2019, EPA issued a SDWA Administrative Order to Camp Twin Creeks LLC, the owner of a public water system that serves customers at an overnight summer camp. The case was referred by West Virginia Department of Health and Human Resources. EPA issued a Notice of Violation in August 2017 for failing to provide adequate filtration and disinfection treatment to reduce harmful levels of microorganisms. Camp Twin Creeks installed treatment but the system is not run by a licensed operator, necessary to conduct proper operation and monitoring to ensure the filtration and disinfection meets regulatory standards. In addition to meeting the treatment and operation requirements, Camp Twin Creeks is required to provide an alternate water source and issue Public Notice informing staff and camper families of the violations and what the system is doing to address the situation.
