On September 18, 2019, Region 3 issued a NORA to Vestergaard Frandsen, Inc. for importing LifeStraw
branded products. These are water filtration devices designed to protect against bacteria, parasites, and certain chemicals and to allow humans to drink water from ponds, lakes, rivers or streams. While pesticide devices do not require registration under the Federal Insecticide, Fungicide and Rodenticide Act (FIFRA), they must be produced in an EPA-registered establishment, and are also subject to FIFRA label, reporting and import requirements. The product in this import shipment was produced in a South Korean facility that was not registered with the EPA, and the packaging was not compliant with FIFRA. The violation was discovered through spot-checks of U.S. Customs and Border Protection's Automated Commercial Environment database which contains information on all product being imported into the U.S.
