On February 12, 2020, Region 2 entered into an Administrative Order and Settlement Agreement (AOC) under CERCLA with the Respondents, two affiliated redevelopment companies, for the upgrade of their aging bulkhead at the Gowanus Canal Superfund Site in Brooklyn, New York. A new bulkhead is needed to provide support for the dredging and capping of the Canal, which is expected to begin in the summer of 2020. It will also support planned commercial redevelopment work at the property. The work under the AOC is valued at $1,500,000.
