On May 7, 2020, EPA Region III settled Clean Air Act (CAA) matter with Wholesome Harvest Bakery located in Roanoke, Virginia. After a Risk Management Program inspection by the Oil and Prevention Enforcement Section on October 23, 2019, EPA found that the Respondent had violated regulations implementing Section 112(r) of the CAA which requires chemical accident prevention planning at facilities that use certain hazardous substances. Wholesome Harvest Bakery, a commercial bakery which uses anhydrous ammonia in its refrigeration process, specifically failed to provide audible and visual alarms in its mechanical room in accordance with industry standards. Wholesome Harvest Bakery has agreed to pay a cash penalty of $1,500 as part of an Expedited Penalty Action and Consent Agreement.
