Summary

Region 10 Settles with Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility (Bremerton, Washington) for CWA Violations On September 10, 2020, Region 10 signed into effect a Federal Facility Compliance Agreement with the Puget Sound Naval Shipyard & Intermediate Maintenance Facility. This naval facility is the largest in the Pacific Northwest and the only one large enough to handle aircraft carriers. The facility is NPDES permitted to discharge process wastewater into Sinclair Inlet, Puget Sound. The wastewater discharges from facility has been exceeding the copper limit. This problem has persisted for many years. This agreement requires the Navy to take corrective action measures to reduce the amount of copper being discharged from the facility. Doing so will improve water quality in Sinclair Inlet which is a known adronamous fish passage water.
