On January 12, 2021, the Regional Judicial Officer signed a Final Order ratifying a Consent Agreement between EPA and District Health Partners d/b/a The George Washington University Hospital (GWH), located in Washington, DC. The Consent Agreement resolves alleged violations of RCRA C identified during a March 2019 EPA inspection of The George Washington University Hospital.
The hazardous waste management regulations promulgated pursuant to RCRA Subtitle C provide for the management and transport of hazardous waste from the time and place of generation to its ultimate disposition at a RCRA treatment, storage or disposal facility. EPA routinely inspects hazardous waste generators for compliance with RCRA regulations in accordance with joint enforcement goals agreed upon by EPA and states authorized to implement RCRA C. The alleged RCRA C violations chiefly concern violations of the satellite accumulation rules, poor container management, improper management of universal waste, failure to maintain required aisle space in a hazardous waste storage area, failure comply with the RCRA Contingency Plan requirements and failure to comply with the Land Disposal Notice requirements.
GWH will pay a $108,304 penalty.
