On December 30, 2020, EPA Region 8 filed a Consent Agreement and Final Order (CAFO) with METech Recycling, Inc. (METech), to address Resource Conservation and Recovery
Act (RCRA) violations at its facility in Salt Lake City, Utah. The violations involved storage of hazardous waste without a permit, including speculative accumulation of hazardous
waste, accumulation of hazardous waste for longer than 90 days, failure to label containers of hazardous waste, and failure to maintain appropriate aisle space; failure to notify
as a large quantity handler of universal waste; and accumulation of universal waste for longer than one year. Under the terms of the agreement, METech agreed to pay a civil
penalty and certify that all speculatively accumulated CRT glass has been shipped off-site to a legitimate recycler; implement an inventory and tracking system for CRT glass
and universal waste shipments; develop and implement a training program for staff, and submit reports to EPA concerning CRT shipments.
