On March 24, 2021, EPA issued a Clean Water Act Administrative Order to Bradford Soap Works, Inc. of West Warwick, Rhode Island. The company has agreed to take steps to mitigate an ongoing oil discharge from its property (likely emanating from a historic underground oil storage tank). Given the difficulty of accessing the area where the tank had been located to both confirm that it is the source of the oil and to remove contaminated sediments, the company has agreed to install a combination of absorbent booms and absorbent geocomposite mats containing organo-clay to address the intermittent sheens and to provide reports to EPA.
