On June 10, 2021, Region 10 filed an Administrative Order on Consent (AOC) to address
violations of the Clean Water Act by the City of Wapato's wastewater treatment facility, located at 68170 U.S. Highway 97, Wapato, Washington 98951. The AOC requires the City to take specific actions to prevent continued effluent exceedance violations of its copper and zinc parameters, which have led to over 3,000 effluent exceedance violations. Those action include seeking an engineering solution to eliminate the exceedance of allowable limits of copper and zinc; seeking funding from the Washington Department of Ecology (WDOE) to aid in paying for the implementation of the engineering plan, and implementation of the engineering plan.
