EPA Region 10 Settles with East West Seafoods, LLC, Seattle, WA for CWA Violations
On September 22, 2021, Region 10 filed a consent agreement and final order resolving violations of the
Clean Water Act by East West Seafoods, LLC (East West Seafoods) for seafood processing discharges
from the P/V Pacific Producer under ADEC's Offshore Seafood Processing General Permit. Associated
with its 2016 and 2017 processing seasons, East West Seafoods failed to do the following: conduct
daily monitoring/documenting of the sea surface, waste conveyance, and grinder; monthly effluent
monitoring and measuring and photographing of the grinder and discharge; quarterly sampling and
measuring of the receiving water; provide a complete annual report; and conduct a seafloor survey in
Moser Bay. By failing to monitor, Respondent failed to ensure water quality controls were working and
that seafood processing was not adversely affecting water quality in Moser Bay and near Adak, Alaska.
The Respondent has agreed to pay a penalty of $1,000 after demonstrating a limited ability to pay and
has returned to compliance. The estimated cost of injunctive relief is $4,000.
