On 02/16/2022, EPA Region 10 issued a consent agreement and final order resolving violations by GT
Metals & Salvage LLC located in Longview, Washington, of their NPDES Industrial Stormwater
General Permit issued by the Washington State Department of Ecology. GT Metals & Salvage operates
an auto wrecking & salvage yard and failed to develop a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan
(SWPPP), failed to implement best management practices (BMPs), failed to conduct required sampling
of discharges, failed to conduct monthly visual inspections, and failed to complete, submit, and
maintain records. Respondent has agreed to pay a penalty of $50,300 and has also separately entered
into an administrative order on consent with EPA that was issued on 01/07/2022 to take corrective
actions to resolve violations. By coming into compliance EPA estimates that this action has helped
reduce 7,405 lbs of sediment and over 300 lbs of metals including lead from discharging off-site and
eventually reaching the Columbia River.
