On March 8, 2022, Region 10 filed a Consent Agreement and Final Order (CAFO) to address violations
of the Clean Water Act at the Port Angeles Industrial Waterfront, located at 1301 Marine Drive, Port
Angeles, Washington 98362. The Port of Por Angeles operates the Industrial Waterfront that violated
the CWA by failing to update its Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP), failing to properly
store hazardous material, failing to sample all outfalls, and the use of expire pH buffer solutions.
Respondent agreed to pay a penalty of $67,000. The facility?s violations did not include numerical
exceedances of benchmarks or permit limits; therefore, a environmental benefit cannot be calculated at
this time. Human health and the environment benefit from this action by ensuring the facility is
properly sampling and monitoring its stormwater discharges to promptly address any exceedances of
pollutants that may occur.
