On October 26, 2021, EPA Region 1 issued an Immediate Compliance Order under Section 113(a)(3) of the Clean Air Act to Brady Sullivan Contracting, LLC (Brady Sullivan). Brady Sullivan was cited for failing to provide EPA with notification at least ten days before demolition and renovation work began at the American Wire Mill Apartments located at 413 Central Ave, Pawtucket, RI. The order requires Brady Sullivan to immediately comply with the Clean Air Act Asbestos National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP). The action addresses work that began in February 2020 and lasted until at least March 10, 2020. The American Wire Mill Apartments are located in an area for which EPA's EJ SCREEN tool identified several EJ Indexes being at or above the 80th percentile nationally. The Rhode Island Department of Health is aware and supportive of this action.
