Summary

The University Park Sewer Benefit District and Riley County Public Works Department operate University Park Wastewater Treatment Facility, a publicly-owned treatment works near Tuttle Creek Lake that has repeatedly exceeded applicable NPDES permit limits for biochemical oxygen demand, total suspended solids, ammonia as nitrogen, and E. coli. In addition, EPA inspectors observed deficiencies in how the facility laboratory operated during a May 2021 inspection. EPA Region 7 and Respondents have entered into an administrative order for compliance on consent that requires the treatment works to develop a plan to come into compliance by September 1, 2025, and to provide regular progress reports.
