## Summary

Reliable owns and operates a heavy-duty diesel engine (HDDE) service and repair facility that sells parts or components intended for use with HDDEs and performs, among other things, performance modifications to HDDEs. EPA sent Reliable a Section 208 Information Request on June 26th, 2018. On December 19, 2018, EPA issued a Finding of Violation (FOV) to Reliable alleging Reliable sold at least 57 parts or components that allow for removal of or bypass or emission controls in violation of Section 203(a)(3)(A) of the CAA. Additionally, EPA alleged that Reliable removed and/or rendered inoperative the emission control systems from at least 242 motor vehicles or engines in violation of Section 203(a)(3)(B) of the CAA.
This CAFO requires Reliable to pay a penalty of $175,000, post an announcement of this settlement on its webpages, no longer remove or render inoperative, or manufacture, sell, or install any parts that defeat any emission control system on any vehicle, no longer provide any technical support, maintenance, repair, or information pertaining to defeat devices for use with HDDEs, and remove and/or destroy all defeat devices from any company vehicles and from the company?s possession.
