The University Park Sewer Benefit District and Riley County Public Works Department operate a publicly-owned treatment works near Tuttle Creek Lake that has repeatedly exceeded applicable NPDES permit limits for biochemical oxygen demand, total suspended solids, ammonia as nitrogen, and E. coli. In addition, EPA inspectors observed deficiencies in how the facility laboratory operated during a May 2021 inspection.
EPA Region 7 and Respondents have entered into an administrative penalty order and agreed to a $1,750 penalty.
