On November 7, 2022, the Regional filed an expedited settlement agreement with Scrap It, Inc. of Marlborough, New Hampshire resolving violations of Section 301 of the Clean Water Act. On October 26, 2021, the Region conducted an inspection of the facility, which operates a scrap metal and recycling business, and found that the company was discharging stormwater from point sources at the site. These discharges were not authorized by an individual NPDES permit nor the NPDES Multi-Sector General Permit for Stormwater Discharges Associated with Industrial Activity (MSGP). The company promptly worked towards creating a Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan and applying for MSGP coverage. The settlement requires that the company pay a $10,000 penalty. The Region worked in coordination with the New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services on this case.
