On December 15, 2022, the Regional Judicial Officer approved an expedited settlement agreement with Boston BoatWorks, LLC (BBW) of Charlestown, Massachusetts resolving violations of the Multi-Sector General Permit for Stormwater Discharges Associated with Industrial Activity (MSGP). On June 8, 2022, the Region conducted an inspection of the facility, which operates a boat building and repair business, and found that BBW was not following the management practices for the discharge of treated boat bottom wash water described in its Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan (SWPPP) and failed to identify and sample from all outfalls at the facility. The company promptly corrected the violations. The settlement requires that the company pay a $10,547 penalty. The facility is not located in an area impacted by Environmental Justice issues. The Region worked in coordination with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection on this case.
