On December 11, 2023, EPA Region 6 issued an Administrative Order under its authority pursuant to Section 309 of the Clean Water Act to the City of La Marque Wastewater Treatment Plant in La Marque, Galveston County, Texas. The AO was issued in response to Flow (in conduit or through treatment plant), Carbonaceous BOD (5-day, 20?C), Total Copper, Enterococci, pH, and Total Ammonia Nitrogen effluent violations of its permit limits. The AO requires the facility to 1) submit a list of specific actions taken to correct the violations and 2) submit written certification to EPA that the violations have been corrected and the facility is compliant with its permit. The Respondent must respond to EPA Region 6 within thirty (30) days of the effective dated of the AO. The EPA EJ Screen tool indicates that the city is located in an area with an Environmental Justice index over 90%.
