On December 19, 2023 EPA Region 6 issued a schedule Administrative Order under its authority pursuant to Section 309 of the Clean Water Act to the City of Tucumcari Wastewater Treatment Plant in San Juan County, New Mexico. The AO was issued in response to the city's violation of the NPDES Permit requirement to complete construction project milestones to reduce WWTP effluent limit pollutants. This project is applicable to achieving effluent CWA compliance for dissolved oxygen, methylmercury, total phosphorus, and total nitrogen. The AO requires the city to adhere to a new comprehensive schedule to complete the required projects.
