Region 10 has issued an enforcement action (CAFO) for United States Army Garrison Fort Wainwright (Alaska) for violations of Subtitle C of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). The implementing regulations of RCRA require that generators of hazardous waste must manage the hazardous waste in compliance with RCRA requirements to protect human health and the environment. The violations are based on an August 2021 inspection of US Army Garrison Fort Wainwright and include 1) failure to make a hazardous waste determination, 2) storage without a permit or interim status, 3) failure to properly manage pharmaceutical waste, 4) failure to properly manage universal waste, 5) failure to properly manage used oil.
