## Summary

On April 24, 2024, EPA issued a Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA) Administrative Order (Order) to the Westerly Water Department located in Westerly, Rhode Island for its alleged failure to certify completion of its Emergency Response Plan required by the American Water Infrastructure Act by December 31, 2021 under Section 1433(b) of SDWA. The Order requires the Water Department to submit its certification within 30 days. EPA retains primary enforcement responsibility for Section 1433 of the SDWA but has communicated with the Rhode Island Department of Health on this matter. Parts of the Water Department's distribution system are located in areas of environmental justice concern.
