On August 21, 2024, Region 3 filed a Consent Agreement and Final Order, simultaneously commencing and concluding an administrative enforcement action against the Aberdeen Proving Ground and Edgewood Area, Maryland (the Facility), for alleged violations of RCRA Subtitle C and I, and Maryland's federally authorized hazardous waste management and underground storage tank regulations. The settlement will ensure that hazardous waste at the Facility is properly managed and stored and that underground storage tanks are appropriately monitored and maintained. The alleged violations include: (1) Failure to Repair or Reseal Damaged Containment Surfaces; (2) Failure to Keep Hazardous Waste Containers Closed; (3) Failure to Perform Annual Tests of Line Leak Detectors; (4) Failure to Perform Annual Tests of Line Leak Detectors; (5) Failure to Perform Release Detection Every Thirty-Days; and (6) Failure to Maintain Release Detection Records. Respondent is currently in compliance with the requirements and has agreed to pay a settlement penalty of $82,528. The EPA informed the Maryland Department of the Environment of this enforcement action and received no objection.
