On September 18, 2024, EPA Region 1 issued an administrative Compliance Order under Section 113(a)(3) of the Clean Air Act to the Town of Fair Haven, VT. The Town of Fair Haven was cited for failing to thoroughly inspect the town hall building for asbestos containing materials prior to conducting renovation work. The order requires the Town of Fair Haven to comply with the Clean Air Act Asbestos NESHAP. The action addresses renovation work on the town hall building that occurred between February 2022 and March 2024, for which no specific environmental justice issues were identified. The Vermont Department of Health is aware and supportive of this action.
