On January 23, 2025, EPA Region III filed an Expedited Settlement Agreement and Final Order, simultaneously commencing and concluding an administrative action proceeding against Ames Goldsmith Corp, who owns Pyromet LLC ( Pyromet ) located at 5 Commerce Drive, Aston, Pennsylvania 19014 ( Facility ) for violations of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act ( RCRA ) and the authorized Pennsylvania Hazardous Waste Management Regulations, discovered during EPA's compliance evaluation inspection of the Facility on April 17, 2024. RCRA gives EPA the authority to control hazardous waste from the cradle-to-grave This includes the generation, transportation, treatment, storage and disposal of hazardous waste. To that end, EPA develops regulations, guidance and policies that ensure the safe management and cleanup of solid and hazardous waste, and programs that encourage source reduction and beneficial reuse. Pyromet reclaims and refines silver and other precious metals. Hazardous waste is generated through fire assays which generate lead-bearing cupels. The violations in the settlement include a failure to make a waste determination, and a failure to document volume of material at the beginning of the year, volume of material generated/received during the year, and volume of material at the end of the year. Region 3 notified PADEP, which had no objections to this action. Per the terms of the Expediated Settlement Agreement, Ames Goldsmith Corp. will pay a civil penalty in the
