On April 22, 2025, EPA Region 1 (EPA) and P.S. Marston Associates, LLC (P.S. Marston) entered into an agreement to resolve alleged violations of Section 311 of the Clean Water Act (CWA) stemming from a biodiesel spill at Bates College in Lewiston, Maine. EPA alleged that the company released 1,680 gallons of biodiesel into a brook that flows to the Androscoggin River during an oil transfer at Bates College. Under the Consent Agreement and Final Order, which initiated and concluded EPA's enforcement action simultaneously, the company will pay a $49,528 penalty. P.S. Marston, a trucking company headquartered in North Hampton, New Hampshire, spent more than $1,500 to clean up the spill. EPA has notified the Maine Department of Environmental Protection of the settlement.
