On May 5, 2025, the Regional Judicial Officer approved an expedited settlement agreement with G. Lopes Construction, Inc. (G. Lopes Construction or the Company) of Taunton, Massachusetts, resolving alleged violations of Section 301 of the Clean Water Act. On April 25, 2024, EPA Region 1 (the Region) conducted an inspection of G. Lopes Construction's facility in Raynham, Massachusetts and found that the facility was discharging stormwater associated with industrial activity from point sources at the site. These discharges were neither authorized by an individual National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) permit nor the NPDES Multi-Sector General Permit for Stormwater Discharges Associated with Industrial Activity (MSGP). The Company promptly worked toward obtaining MSGP coverage. The settlement requires that the Company pay a $6,000 penalty. The Region worked in coordination with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection on this case.
