On September 24, 2025, EPA Region 10 issued a consent agreement and final order to Walla Walla Foundry, Inc., resolving violations of 40 C.F.R. Part 63 National Emission Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants. EPA alleged that Walla Walla Foundry failed to submit initial notifications and semiannual reports under NESHAP Subpart HHHHHH (Paint Stripping and Miscellaneous Surface Coating Operations at Area Sources) and NESHAP Subpart ZZZZZ (Iron and Steel Foundries Area Sources). The notification and reporting requirements of these two NESHAPs allow EPA and other regulatory agencies to monitor and regulate facilities engaged in foundry and surface coating activities which release hazardous air pollutants. Additionally, EPA Alleged, Walla Walla Foundry failed to train and certify workers applying surface coatings containing hazardous air pollutants to reduce and minimize emissions, as required by Subpart HHHHHH. Walla Walla Foundry has returned to compliance with both NESHAPs and agreed to pay a penalty of $78,480.
