On June 4, 2025, EPA filed an Expedited Settlement Agreement (ESA) resolving violations of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) alleged against Tufts Medical Center (Respondent) of Boston, Massachusetts. Tufts Medical Center is a sixteen-building full service medical campus that includes medical research labs, out/in patient clinics, primary care clinics, specialty clinics, and operating suites. Tufts Medical Center, a large quantity generator of hazardous waste, failed to determine if a waste is a hazardous waste, manage universal waste properly, and submit the contingency plan to the required local authorities. The ESA requires the company to pay a penalty of $10,000 and certify compliance with RCRA requirements. EPA notified Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection of this action.
