On January 21, 2026, EPA-Region 1 entered into an expedited settlement agreement (Agreement) with Hawthorn Preserve, LLC ( Hawthorn Preserve ), addressing violations of the General Permit for Discharges from Construction Activities (CGP) at The Residences of Hawthorn Preserve site in Braintree, Massachusetts. On July 15, 2025, EPA Region 1 conducted an inspection at The Residences of Hawthorn Preserve and observed numerous failures to comply with the federal Construction General Permit for Stormwater Discharges from Construction Activities. Pursuant to the Agreement, Hawthorn Preserve, LLC will pay a $3,660 penalty. EPA implements the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System program in Massachusetts. The case team consulted with the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection on this matter.
