Summary

4/8/02: INTERIM MEASURES/RCRA FACILITY INVESTIGATION/AND CORRECTIVE MEASURES STUDY. On September 16, 2024, the EPA signed and finalized an amendment to an administrative order on consent with BNSF Railway Company relating to the closed BNSF Shops located in Burlington, Iowa. The amendment makes changes to an existing order that the parties executed in 2002. Both the order and the amendment relate to the corrective action requirements of the Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA). The Respondents have completed investigations to identify the extent of releases of hazardous wastes and constituents at the facility resulting from operations. With those investigations now concluded, the parties executed the order amendment to memorialize Respondents' obligation to implement the corrective actions.
