Summary

This is an administrative settlement of a past cost claim against the Respondent, which is the successor by merger and name change of White Consolidated Industries, Inc., which operated at the Marsh Valve Superfund Site. From approximately 1965 to 1980, the Site was operated as a brass valve manufacturing facility by White, or its subsidiary, Sarco Company, Inc. (which was merged into White). White became the owner of the property of record in 1980. The brass valve manufacturing process created lead contamination in casting sands, which were disposed of in the yard around the Marsh Valve facility. The lead contamination found in the facility soils and the possible release of residual lead slag in the building was considered to be a risk to human health and the environment. In April of 2001, EPA commenced a removal action to clean up the lead contamination slag and sediment and demolish the badly deteriorated building at the Site.
