In 1990, the USAF entered into a FFA regarding the Griffiss AFB site in Rome, NY. As part of the FFA, the AF was required to investigate various Operable Units (OUs) and Areas of Concern (AOC) and, if necessary, take all necessary response actions in accordance with Section 121 of CERCLA.
On March 6, 2009 the ROD was issued for OU35-Building 817 which addressed contaminated groundwater. The ROD requires enhanced bioremediation, LTM, Institutional Controls, and five year reviews for the groundwater contaminated with TCE.
On March 6, 2009 the ROD was issued for OU35-Nosedock and Apron Area which addressed contaminated groundwater. Groundwater contains TCE and natural attentuation along with institutional controls, LTM, and five year reviews will be performed as required by the ROD.
On March 6, 2009 the ROD was issued for OU6-Landfill 6-Building 775 which addressed contaminated groundwater. Groundwater contains TCE and a pump and treatment will be installed along with institutional controls, LTM, and five year reviews.
On September 25, 2009, a ROD amendment was approved for Landfill 1 allowing for the removal of a leachate collection and treatment system. On September 30, 2009 a no further action ROD was signed for Bldg. 43 site. On September 30, 2009 a no further action ROD was signed for Tank Farm 1 & 3 Site.
