On October 8, 2010, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois in Rockford, Illinois entered a judicial consent decree between United States and various potentially responsible parties (PRPs). The PRPs signing the consent decree were Central Rubber Company: Woodhead Industries, Inc.; Textron, Inc.; Camcar LLC; and Johns Manville. The consent decree generally settles the PRPs Superfund liability for the United States past and future response costs in addressing groundwater contamination in an area of Belvidere that includes properties that the PRPs formerly owned or currently own, as well as the former Parsons Casket Hardware Company facility. Exclusions to the consent decree include the PRPs continuing liability for contamination on or under an area including their own properties. As part of the consent decreeÂs obligations, the signing PRPs will pay the United States $3.6 million.
