Consent Decree will stop the discharge of manure, wastewater, and stormwater mixed with manure and wastewater to Sales Creek from Suffolk Downs racetrack facility. Discharges were addressed by significant reconstruction of stable area drainage, with all contaminated wastewater now directed to a holding pond for use in irrigation of track infield or pumped to sanitary sewer during off-peak conditions. Additional stormwater controls include a number of green infrastructure settling and infiltration basins. Settlement included over $3M in construction, $1.25M penalty, and $742,000 in Supplemental Environmental Projects ( SEPs ). The SEPs include 3 years of Mystic River Watershed Association sampling; 4 years of Saugus River Watershed Council sampling; and a habit protection boardwalk in the Belle Isle Marsh adjacent to the facility.
