On June 9, 2007, a tanker truck owned by Pettit Oil Company lost control and struck a rock outcrop on Highway 8 at milepost 10 near McCleary, WA. Accident resulted in spilled cargo that ignited a large fire. It is estimated that the spill released approx. 10,000 gallons (238 barrels) of diesel and gasoline into Mox-Chehalis Creek and its adjacent wetlands.
