On June 11, 2003, EPA signed Administrative Order on Consent with Exide Technologies ( Exide ) for a removal response action at the Price Battery Site in Hamburg, Pennsylvania. The Site is comprised of the battery plant formerly owned by Price Battery and General Battery Corporation as well as over 400 residential homes. Exide is the successor corporation to General Battery Corporation and is the current owner of the plant. Exide is currently in Chapter 11 bankruptcy proceedings. The Order requires Exide to perform a removal action to abate the threat of high lead concentrations in the soil at the plant property. EPA is performing a Fund-lead removal action to address lead contamination at the residential homes at the Site. This PRP-lead removal will allow EPA to concentrate its cleanup efforts at the residential portion of the Site. The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania was notified of this actio
