## Summary

On February, 25, 2003, EPA Region IX entered into an Administrative Order On Consent (AOC) for a removal action with the current owner and former operator of the Master Plating Superfund Site in San Diego, California. The site was contaminated by metal plating operations from 1972 to 2002. The current operator partially cleaned the site pursuant to an administrative order with San Diego County. However, contamination remains on the building floor, wall, and possibly in adjacent residential properties. Recent sampling by EPA indicated that the site is still contaminated with chromium, nickel, lead, and copper. Therefore, EPA entered into an AOC which requires the current owner to clean up the site pursuant to an EPA approved work plan, reimburse EPA's future response costs, and pay a portion of EPA's past costs. EPA currently intends to turn the site over to the State for further evaluation after the removal action is completed.
