## Summary

The institution underwent a Multi-Media Inspection during the week of February 26, 2002; the RCRA portion was conducted on February 26 and 27, 2002.  The following RCRA violations were found: operating a storage facility without a permit or interim status by not complying with most of the requirements for generators of hazardous waste (storage, labeling, recordkeeping, emergency preparation and prevention, and personnel training); and failing to make a hazardous waste determination.

Long Island University, C.W. Post College underwent a Multi-Media Inspection (MMI) during the week of Feb. 26, and 27, 2002.  The following RCRA violations were observed: operating a storage facility without a permit or interim status by not complying with requirements necessary for an exemption from permitting, including hazardous waste labeling and storage, recordkeeping, emergency preparation and prevention, and other requirements as specifically alleged in the body of the Complaint, and for not identifying whether or not various waste streams were or were not hazardous waste.  The proposed penalty was $112,310.00.  The universitey signed a Consent Agreement and Final Order on March 26, 2004 which addressed compliance issues for LIU, CW Post College and for LIU, Southampton College, and involved a Supplementary Environmental Project worth $115,000.00 in additionto a monetary penalty of $39,057.00, to be shared by the two colleges.
