## Abstract

This Memorandum Opinion and Order addresses petitions for reconsideration of the Federal Communications Commission's (FCC) Emergency alert System rules (EAS). These rules were approved by the FCC in 1994 to replace the Emergency Broadcast System (EBS). The purpose of EAS is to improve emergency warnings and information using broadcast stations and cable systems. The Memorandum Opinion and Order makes some changes requested by the petitions and denies others, and amends a number of the EAS rules.
